The Cambridge Bag comes in two sizes. The large size is your daily driver: room for your phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, and a snack for the road. The small size is for the evenings and errands when you just need the essentials.

A note about this pattern:

This is a measure-and-cut pattern, which means every piece is cut straight from your fabric using a rotary cutter and gridded ruler. No templates to print or tape together.

Zipper notes:

Large bag: one 12", one 8", and one 7" size #5 metal zipper
Small bag: one 10", one 7", and one 6" size #5 metal zipper
Or use size #5 zipper by the yard (1 yard, plus 3 pulls covers either size)

Hardware needed (use 1" for the large bag or 0.75" for the small bag):

(2) swivel hooks
(2) D-rings
(1) strap adjuster (a wide-mouth adjuster is recommended)
(7) small double cap rivets (8 mm cap, 6 mm post)
(4) medium double cap rivets (9 mm cap, 8 mm post)

Fabric requirements:

Exterior: 0.5 yard of 10 to 13 oz waxed canvas or similar weight fabric (based on 60" wide fabric)
Lining: 0.75 yard for the large bag or 0.5 yard for the small bag, in cotton linen canvas or quilting cotton (based on 44" wide fabric)

Interfacing needed:

1.5 yards for the large bag or 1 yard for the small bag, in fusible woven interfacing like Pellon SF101 (based on 20" wide)

Leather strapping (optional, or make it in canvas):

70" of 5 to 6 oz leather strapping, including one continuous 60" piece for the crossbody strap
Recommended widths: 1" for the large bag, 0.75" for the small bag
Prefer a non-leather option? The pattern includes instructions for a waxed canvas strap

You'll also need:

Polyester thread and a size 90/14 or 100/16 denim needle
Cutting mat, rotary cutter, and acrylic ruler
Fabric scissors, wonder clips, pins
Iron, double-sided tape, fray check, point turner, seam ripper
Double cap rivet setter and anvil
Hammer or mallet
1/8" drive punch or rotary punch for making holes in leather and fabric
1/2" drive punch for leather reinforcement washers (skip this if using a canvas strap)
Optional: poly cutting board (for punching holes), tapered awl, and a 1" or 0.75" round strap end punch for shaping leather ends
