  • Skill Level: Beginner
  • Pattern Type: Paper, Printed
  • Bonus: Online tutorials

A simple, generous everyday tote that comes together quickly and gets used constantly.

The Pepin is the kind of bag you reach for without thinking – roomy enough for a notebook, lunch, and the extras that never fit in your purse, but clean enough in shape to feel intentional.

It's beautiful in its simplicity, but there's also room to play. Add a magnetic snap or recessed zipper for a more secure closure, dress up the front pocket with a turn lock or fancy snap, or let a favourite fabric do all the talking. And because the whole pattern is made of rectangles, there's nothing to print, trace, or tape together – you cut straight from the fabric and start sewing.

✨ Here's why you'll love it:

  • Generous everyday size that fits a notebook, a water bottle, and your everything-else
  • Front pocket that's perfect for featuring a special print or fussy-cut detail
  • Divided interior pocket for keys, phone, and lip balm
  • So many ways to customize: magnetic snap top, recessed zipper, decorative snap on the front pocket, a turn lock, a Loxx closure… make it yours
  • No templates to print or tape – all rectangles, cut straight from the fabric
  • Free video sew-along walks you through every step

    Zipper notes:

    • For the recessed zipper closure, you'll need (1) 20" zipper OR 20" of #5 nylon coil zipper tape with one pull
    • Browse our zipper tape and pulls collection to mix and match your own

    Good to know:

    • Skill level: Beginner
    • Finished dimensions: 13.5" wide x 12" tall x 4" deep (34.3 x 30.5 x 10.2 cm)

What's included in the paper pattern:

    • Instruction booklet with step-by-step directions and clear professional illustrations
    • Rotary cutting measurements for every rectangle in both metric and imperial – just cut and sew, no templates to assemble
    • Label sheet to keep your pieces organized
    • Tucked into a resealable poly bag for easy storage

    A note about this pattern:

This is a measure-and-cut pattern, which means there are no templates to print or piece together. You'll cut every piece straight from the fabric using a rotary cutter, gridded ruler, and cutting mat. If you'd rather work from paper templates, you can transfer the measurements onto template material yourself.

    • (1) 3/4" (18 mm) magnetic snap for the top closure
    • (1) size 24 metal snap for the front pocket (or get creative with a turn lock or Loxx closure)

    Fabric requirements:

    • Exterior: 1 yard (reduce to 2/3 yard if your fabric is non-directional)
    • Lining: 2/3 yard (includes the interior pocket)
    • Fusible woven interfacing: 2 yards of Pellon SF101 (20" wide)
